Frequently asked questions

What difference does adding VO2 make?

The most valuable aspect is obtaining a measurement of your running economy. Measuring oxygen consumption (VO2) also allows for greater precision in determining thresholds in certain cases. You will also get your VO2max, though knowing that figure is not particularly useful. For running tests, biomechanical measurements are included alongside VO2. The only downside is that wearing the mask is slightly less comfortable.

How can I best prepare for the test?

You should view the test as an important workout. Therefore, it is recommended not to do an intense session the day before and to eat before the test just as you would before a hard workout. If you are in the habit of having coffee before interval sessions or if you drink it every day, do the same.

Can I get a receipt for my insurance?

No, the payment receipt will not entitle you to a reimbursement, as David is not a member of the Fédération des kinésiologues du Québec or any professional association. He holds a Master’s degree in Movement and Sports Sciences from the University of Lausanne and is certified as a Performance Coach Endurance by Athletics Canada.

When should I do the test?

Ideally, schedule it for the end of a week that isn’t too heavy on training. It is useful to perform a test before a major training block to fine-tune your zones, but also during or after it to measure your progress. Testing close to a race can also be beneficial. For instance, after the first week of a two-week taper leading up to a key event. In short, it can be done at almost any point in the season, provided you are relatively fresh.

I'm a beginner, is it worth doing a test?

Absolutely! It’s arguably even more relevant, since it’s harder for a beginner to know how to train at the right intensity. Even if you progress quickly, your heart rate zones will remain valid for a long time.

Should I bring my super shoes?

Yes, you might as well run the test with the best possible equipment.

For the cycling test, do I need a power meter?

For precise power zones, yes. However, if you train without a power meter, you are likely more interested in your heart rate zones and you will get those. Your report will also include power zones, but the KICKR ROLLR’s accuracy is not at its best when used without a power meter.

Is there parking on-site?

Parking costs $10 on weekdays. It is free on weekends.

Are there showers on site?

Yes, and towels are provided.

Can I book without paying?

Yes, but you will still need to enter your credit card number.

I don't see any availability two months from now, will there be any?

Yes, new availability is generally added a little over a month in advance. Thank you for your patience.
